This 10mW Visual Fault Locator is a handy product for CATV Telecommunications Engineering Maintenance. It has a super bright diverging output with a ring pattern that is safe for everyday use. The product is fun to demonstrate the wave particle duality. The SC-LC plugged into the power meter was showing 8mW@850nm which is perfect for most applications at a campus-wide range. However, it might not be powerful enough for long-haul fiber. But the product has some glitches, and it can be a hit-or-miss. A reviewer purchased two of them, and one turned off if tilted outside of 45-90 degrees. The power switch moves very easily, and slightly brushing it will move it to the on or off position, draining the battery. After a week of everyday usage, the light on the tip becomes erratic, and after two weeks, it comes and goes, making it unreliable. Also, it doesn't fit the LC, so one needs to buy an additional conversion adapter. Overall, the Visual Fault Locator is worth the cheap cost, and one can't complain much, but it could be better.
