Die draad is geen touw om me aan vast te binden; het is een route die ik elke dag opnieuw mag lopen. Deep Purple is voor mij geen genre maar een manier van bewegen door tijd en aandacht. Onderweg hoor ik een Draak ademen, een Hammond zingen en een Strat spreken; ik ruik modder en wierook in dezelfde ademteug. Het maakt me zacht voor verschillen en nieuwsgierig naar wat ik nog niet kan plaatsen. En telkens wanneer ik denk dat ik het snap, wijst de muziek mij verder, vriendelijk en vastberaden. Dat is genoeg. Meer dan genoeg. En morgen luister ik weer alsof het de eerste keer is.
