The BariMelts Multivitamin provides all the essential nutrients found in a balanced diet including those vitamins and elements specifically mentioned in the ASMBS guidelines. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) guidelines recommend that all patients take a multivitamin after weight-loss surgery to prevent any vitamin/trace element deficiencies which may arise with decreased food intake and absorption. Why is Barimelts® Multivitamin better than other brands? The Barimelts® delivery system is great for patients who have undergone bariatric surgery as it dissolves in the mouth and makes the vitamins available for absorption before they reach the stomach. Since the vitamins dissolve in the mouth, the tablet does not take up space in the stomach and allows you to eat a true meal. Some patients post-surgery may have difficulty swallowing and therefore this dosage form would help with that as well. BariMelts® Multivitamin does not contain iron because iron may interact with zinc (iron inhibits zinc absorption). Compared to other bariatric multivitamin products (Bariatric Advantage, Celebrate), Barimelts® Multivitamin contains the guideline-recommended source of copper (as gluconate) versus as citrate or chelate.
